Abstract: He Qifang's prose collection Record of Portraying Dream gains wide praise at home and abroad and occupies an unshakable status in Chinese contemporary literature.This success can be attributed to three reasons: 1) author's concept of prose is widely accepted; 2) the creation of dream world is greatly affected by western fair tales and Chinese fables and legends; 3) its artistic expression is superb, especially the construction of Si by image creation, which caters for Chinese unique aesthetic demand for digesting the details and appreciating the twists.
