Study on Performance of Anti-fretting Wear Coating on Titanium Alloy Material

  • In this paper, a supersonic flame spraying process is used to prepare a chromium carbide wear-resistant coating on the surface of TC4 titanium alloy base material. The TC4 titanium alloy material with coatings is tested with different grinding pairs and different displacement values under the test conditions of different grinding pairs and different displacement pairs by self-made fretting test equipment. The fretting wear properties such as friction coefficient and wear amount are compared with the difference of fretting wear surface morphology, composition and phase composition using SEM, EDS, XRD and other analysis methods. The results show that the friction coefficient under the conditions of different friction pairs and displacement pairs increases rapidly in the initial stage, and the friction coefficient remains stable later; adding a coating on the surface of the titanium alloy is more effective than the wear pair. Coating prepared on one side can reduce the value of friction coefficient by about 20%~30%; and the fretting resistance performance of the coating prepared on both sides of the grinding pair on the TC4 titanium alloy is the best. Under the conditions of different grinding pairs, the fretting wear mechanism of TC4 titanium alloy is mainly composed of adhesive wear, abrasive wear, and oxidative wear.
