Research Progress on C-H Bond Functionalization Involving Free Radicals

  • In the past decades, important progress has been made in the study of transition metal-catalyzed hydrocarbon-bond functionalization reactions. Recently, radical-assisted hydrocarbon functionalization reactions are gradually attracting the interest of chemists. According to the way of free radical generation, this paper is divided into two parts: photoinduced and thermally induced free radical assisted functional group reaction of C-H bond and electronically induced free radical assisted functional group reaction of C-H bond. Comparing the above two types of radical-assisted hydrocarbon bond functionalization research results, we believe that compared with the optical and thermogenic radical-assisted hydrocarbon bond functionalization reactions, the electrochemical radical reactions effectively avoid the defects of the former, and therefore the development of electrochemical hydrocarbon bond activation reactions is an important research direction for the radical-assisted hydrocarbon bond functionalization reactions.
