Potential Analysis of Hydrogen Energy Storage Technology Based on Light-hydrogen Conversion to Solve the Problem of "Abandoned Solar Energy"

  • Over the past decade, solar photovoltaic power generation technology has been rapidly developing in China, with both new and cumulative installed capacities ranking first in the world. However, due to the volatility of photovoltaic power generation and the imbalance between power generation and consumption, some of the electrical energy in the photovoltaic transmission and distribution process can impact the power grid, posing risks to its safety and leading to the phenomenon known as "Abandoned solar power" .This issue is particularly severe in the northwest region of China, where solar resources are abundant. The waste of a significant amount of clean electrical energy due to "Abandoned solar power" is a concern, and energy storage technology is key to solving this problem. Among the various strategies, the light-to-hydrogen conversion energy storage technology is considered to be a promising approach. This paper analyzes the mechanism of the problem of "light abandonment", analyzes the development status of light-hydrogen conversion hydrogen energy storage technology from three directions of hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and absorption, and points out the strategy that China should take in the future to make full use of this technology.
