Optimal Design of Signal Coordination Control System for Intersections at Both Ends of Bridge

  • In order to improve the capacity of intersections at both-end of bridge, decrease the queue length on bridge, and reduce the starting and braking's adverse impact on the service life of a bridge, an example of Shuixi Bridge in Jianou City is given. With the application of "Synchro" for analysis and evaluation, the "different directions at different period" optimal signal coordination control systems are established according to Peak-hours' traffic conditions and management measures. By comparison of traffic efficiency indicators before and after applying the optimal control, a significant improvement can be seen that the queue length at each side of Shuixi Bridge decreases by 63.64% and 52.94% respectively, the time mean speed of main control direction increases by 20.48% in morning peak-hours, and the reduction of queue length by 56.52% and 9.76% respectively, the time mean speed of main control direction increases by 95.65% in evening peak-hours.
