Wall Thickness Optimization and Strength Analysis for Hub of 1.5MW Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines based on ANSYS

  • In order to reduce the quality of the hub and improve the hub stress conditions, this article researches 1.5MW horizontal axis direct-drive wind turbine hub. Through limit load analysis, solid modeling, mesh generation and static strength analysis, the maximum stress value of the original hub is obtained. Then for optimizing the design of the hub by reducing the wall thickness, ANSYS software is used to conduct strength analysis and comparison for the different reducing value of wall thickness, a relative optimal value of reducing the wall thickness is attained, the mass and the limited maximum stress of the hub are significantly reduced with material saved and desired objectives achieved.
