Abstract
In order to improve the safety of a car and increase the energy absorption of structure components as well as keep the impact peak force not being increased, a new type of energy absorption structure is proposed in this paper based on the design approach of hierarchical energy absorption. Using explicit finite element analysis, the axial dynamic compression of the new structure is simulated. By defining the thickness and width of the structure as the design variables, the proposed structure is optimized using the response surface method and orthogonal experimental design. The multi-objective optimization model for the energy absorption and maximum impact force of the new proposed structure are provided during the process of optimization, and the optimal solutions of the structure thickness and width are obtained by using the weighting method.
