The Optimization Control for Regional Traffic Signal Based on Improved Genetic Algorithm

Abstract
In order to realize the optimization control for regional traffic signal, the authors take phase differences into the delay model based on HCM2000; then improve the process of crossover and mutation in the genetic algorithm, and divide each parameter of the individual before performing crossover and mutation on parameters respectively; finally build a optimal model which aims at minimizing the average vehicle delays for entire area. The result of the simulation for an area with four intersections indicates that this plan performs better than the unimproved one, and the average vehicle delay of the area decreases by 7.3%, which means that this plan achieves the goal of global optimization.
