The Study of Dynamic Route Choice Model Based on VMS Information Environment

  • VMS acts as an out-door media delivering real-time information all around the clock and has been favored by lots of cities. It is of great theoretical and practical significance to conduct research on the dynamic models of choosing travel path under the VMS information environment. Firstly, this paper expounds on the information characteristics of VMS and on the behaviors and patterns of choosing travel path under the VMS information environment. Secondly, the paper conducts SP questionnaire survey and data analysis, through numerical simulation of random process about traveler route choice and the result of the random probability statistics, and the proportion of traveler changing his path under the VMS information environment was finally turned out to be 50.36%. Lastly, this paper sets up the route choice model under the VMS information environment and revises the stochastic dynamic users optimal model in order to complete flow distribution and load. Moreover, a small-sized road-net is picked out as example for contrastive analysis on the result of traffic flow between the road-net assignment with VMS and the one without VMS. The analysis result shows that VMS can lead to the timely traffic volume transfer in the upstream section of the traffic flow through delivering information, thus enhancing the operational efficiency of the crowded road section.
