The Analysis of Tower Fore-aft Vibration Control Effects for Onshore and Offshore Wind Turbines Based on the Feedback Control Strategy

  • When tower is under the gravity of its own and wind turbines, engine room, and various wind conditions and sea conditions, the tower vibration amplitude always becomes great, which may lead to bad accidents, such as drum tower collapsed, power fluctuation becoming greater, etc. To control the vibration effectively, appropriate control strategy is important. The feedback control strategy is used for the fore-aft vibration of onshore and offshore wind turbine towers provided by NREL. Simulations are carried out for these two kinds of towers, and the results show that the fore-aft vibration of onshore wind turbine tower can be well suppressed, and it is not obvious for offshore tower. Therefore, other control strategy needs to be considered for offshore wind turbine tower.
