Impact of Yellow Light Violation Penaltyon Traffic Efficiency of Signalized Intersections

Abstract
In order to study the influence of yellow light violation penalty on the intersection efficiency, we analyzed the change of original dilemma zone, and calculated the minimum time of yellow light of different sections, and put forward to two models: slow down ahead at a safe distance and not slow down in advance. experiment results show that the vehicle from the stop line 50.35-56.35 meters and 0-32.85 meters shall not affect the vertical traffic. if the vehicle begins to slow down from the stop line 32.85-50.35 meters, the vertical traffic will be impacted, and the vehicles that influenced the vertical traffic in entire parking areas account for 31.1%. The driver who select to reduce speed in advance in the parking safety cost 17.6s to passage. This generates 14.2s delay compared with the model of the original hesitate zone. When the two kinds of behaviors exist at the same time, the time is 9.43s and delays 6.03s compared with the original dilemma zone.
