Optimization of Structural Parameters for the Engine Intake System of FSAE Racing Car

Abstract
According to the regulation of Formula SAE Rules, the circulating diameter of the intake manifold installed in FSAE racing car's engine is limited to 20mm. Generally, this leads to the power performance degradation. Therefore, we researched the engine intake system of FSAE racing car and the simulation model was established with GT-Power software. The accuracy of the simulation model was verified.Then the model was used to calculate and analyze the effects of the length of intake manifold and the volume of plenum on power performance. Finally, the program was developed to optimize the intake system structure size. The experiment results show that the optimization can improve the power performance and increase the maximum torque 5.9%.
