Study on the Performance of Cylindrical Roller Enveloping Worm Gear with Different Meshing Type

  • In order to investigate the influence of different type for worm gear on the performance of cylindrical roller enveloping hourglass worm gear, the mathematical model of meshing functions and teeth surface equations are derived based on the theory of differential geometry and gear meshing. Three different types of cylindrical roller enveloping worm gear are set through choosing proper rotational angle of worm wheel. Also, the meshing lubrication performance is analysed by numerical calculation of the induced normal curvature and lubrication angle functions. The results show that the three different types of cylindrical roller enveloping worm gear have different lubrication performance, the performance order from high to low is: internal engagement worm gear, end face engagement worm gear, and normal enveloping worm gear. However, there is no obvious difference in meshing performance for the three types worm gears. The study provides a reference for the selection of different meshing segments and parameters of roller enveloping worm gearing.
