Effects of Ti Addition on Mechanical Properties of Cr12MoV Steel

  • In order to study the effect of Ti addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Cr12MoV steel, the samples of different Ti content (0, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5%) were fabricated by using the vacuum induction furnace. The microstructure of the samples was analyzed by means of optical microscope and SEM. Electro mechanical universal testing machines, pendulum impact testing machine and Rockwell hardness tester were utilized to test the mechanical properties of the samples. The results show that the carbide distribution and carbide particle size are improved, and the impact toughness, tensile strength and hardness of Cr12MoV steel increase with the Ti content increasement. When the content of Ti is 0.5%, the impact toughness of the samples reaches 11.3 J, which is 2.8 times higher than that without Ti.
