Abstract: The most important legacy of Lu Yao is his philosophy about hardship in life. His suffering complex vividly reflects his lofty thoughts and elevated personality. Lu extols ideal, labor and soil and enjoy happiness from these things. Lu Yao never despises the independent and subtle hearts, but he thinks people and living environment are more important. Only from this perspective can we deeply understand the simple, deep, blazing and spectacular style and the essence of his works. From the ethics of writing, even though we can understand and define novels' meanings and form roles with possibility and complexity, these roles are easy to be desolate due to the lack of the spirit overcoming hardship. One of the reasons of his works' popularity is that he vividly reproduces the intersection area between rural and urban life, which he is most familiar with. Perhaps, the transition is Lu Yao's real meaning of hardship. Looking back Lu Yao embodies that we are admiring prosperity of ideal literature and mourning the immortal literary spirits.
