Abstract:
Originally Cong was a term of tax payment for minority people in South China in ancient times. It was named and practiced after the Qin Dynasty united ancient China and exercised the Prefecture and County System. Cong People were naturally tax payers. But all Cong People were not so in Wuxi Minority Prefecture. According to historical record, the ancient Ba People were also Cong People, or the Bandung Minority People, who were actually the Miao Minorities, scattered in both the Ba and Shu Areas(the present Sichuan Province and Chongqing City). Thus Cong People, in fact, became a term for tribes. And some of them inhabited in Dangqu County, the present Qu County, which can be proved from the existing historical relics. After the historical periods of the Three Kingdoms and Weijin, the Cong People moved towards the North or/and the East, mingled with other races. But the customs of fishing, hunting, witch worship and dancing remain in present QuXian County, which can be taken advantage of nowadays for the construction of regional culture.
