Abstract:
The building of modern Chinese translation theory should be based on the traditional Chinese translation theory. This paper probes into the three dimensions of traditional Chinese translation theory, namely, linguistic dimension, aesthetic dimension and ethic dimension. Diachronically, the production of these three dimensions embodies the close relation between theory and practice, that is, the different type of translation practice results in the different prominence of the three dimensions. Synchronically, the three dimensions, which are of the same importance, jointly constitute the main cubic frame of traditional Chinese translation theory. In addition, there is the isomorphism between traditional Chinese translation theory and modern Chinese translation theory, which can provide some justifications for the modern transformation of traditional Chinese translation as the important theoretical resources for the building of modern Chinese translation theory.
