Leveraging English "Abstract Maps" to Propel Chinese Academics "Going Global"An Evaluation of English Abstract Indicators for Chinese Journals in Humanities and Social Sciences

  • Through literature review and case analysis, it can be found that the English abstracts of Chinese humanities and social sciences journals have the problems of low readability, insufficient information and weak self-explanatory nature. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the effective methods to strengthen the construction of English abstracts from the perspective of content evaluation. Based on the media function, discipline qualities and writing characteristics of English abstracts in Chinese humanities and social sciences journals, the academic evaluation of English abstracts should adhere to the correct political standards, and be carried out from the three indicators of readability, independence, and institutionalization, in order to actively guide the journal editorial department, authors and readers to explore the methods and norms of writing English abstracts, and to promote Chinese humanities and social sciences journals to form an effective way to build English abstracts, and then help Chinese academics to "go global".
